All is ready for the reopening of the Vasari Corridor!

The project has been presented to the Press.

The project for the upcoming rearrangement of the Vasari Corridor has been presented on 18th February, traditionally dedicated to remember the Electress Palatine, Anna Maria Luisa de’Medici who liberally donated the whole art treasury of her family to the city of Florence. Once the refurbishment works are over, the world-renowned Corridor designed by Vasari in the mid-1500s will be open to visitors again presumably from 2021. The collection of self-portraits that was traditionally on view there will be substituted with a selection of ancient statues and inscriptions, sixteenth-century frescoes originally decorating the external walls of the Corridor, and two memorials dedicated to the 1993 Via dei Georgofili Bombing and the 1944 WWII Bombing of Florence respectively.

“It will be a democratic accessible walk overlooking the heart of florence - says Director Eike Schmidt - And from 2021 500 thousand people may visit it every year.”
