Nearpod Launches New Desmos Integration and Hundreds of K-12 Lessons to Spark Student Engagement

Exclusive upper-level math content comes to the Nearpod platform alongside new VR content to help kids answer ‘what do you want to be when you grow up?’

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – WEBWIRE

Nearpod, the award-winning edtech company helping districts and schools activate student engagement through digital lessons, today announces the release of new platform features and enhanced curriculum offerings made in partnership with Desmos, Common Sense Education and other well-known partners. With these additions, teachers can now access over 7,000 lessons that complement core content areas and expand the ways that supplemental curriculum, including College & Career Readiness and Digital Citizenship & Literacy, align to state and district initiatives.

The integration of Desmos, the interactive tool rivaling expensive graphing calculators, empowers educators with digital math activities so every student can love learning math. With over 100 interactive graphs for multiple categories, teachers can leverage visual problem-solving to encourage exploration and critical thinking in their math classrooms.

“We kept hearing from teachers who love both Desmos and Nearpod, and are thrilled to bring the two tools together to provide a more seamless experience,” said Eli Luberoff, CEO and founder of Desmos. “Every moment of class time is precious. This integration will give teachers and students access to the same graphing calculator used by millions around the world and on a wide range of low-stakes and high-stakes assessments.”

In addition to new math content, the company is adding new virtual reality (VR) Career Tours to its expansive library of VR college tours. These tours introduce immersive technology, aligned to 16 state and career pathway requirements, to prepare students for life beyond the classroom. Teachers enable college and career exploration with ready-to-run lessons while ensuring inclusive access for the opportunity to experience careers, regardless of a student’s zip code.

“We’re facing an engagement crisis in classrooms. 91 percent of superintendents agree that student engagement is a very important measurement of public school effectiveness,” said Guido Kovalskys, CEO and co-founder of Nearpod. “That’s why student engagement is an intrinsic component of Nearpod’s platform and these new lessons and features further empower educators with tools that ignite a passion for learning.”

Moreover, Nearpod has added support for additional timed formative assessments and boosted classroom size support for its free offering. Teachers can now use the new timer feature on polls, quizzes and open-ended question activities. With increased classroom size support, silver edition users can now engage up to 40 students in a single session.

This mid-term release brings together industry leaders such as Desmos, Common Sense Education, educational print magazine provider Cricket Media and social studies content provider Participate. These partnerships make it easier for teachers to utilize multiple edtech tools with the simplicity of a single click.

Beginning February 2019, Nearpod’s ever-growing content offering will include:

  • 25 Nearpod math lessons that incorporate Desmos for grades 6-12
  • 18 new Common Sense digital citizenship lessons for grades 3-5
  • VR Career Tours for 16 career pathways
  • 200 Cricket ELA lessons featuring leveled texts for grades K-5
  • 18 lessons from Participate on the United Nations Sustainable Development goals for grades 6-12
