Faith-Friendly Independent Film “I Flunked Sunday School” Hits Selected Theaters in Texas, Oklahoma and Alabama, November 10th

2006-11-10 -- HOUSTON, Texas --- The independent film “I Flunked Sunday School” is winning the hearts of its audiences all over the country and last month, it brought home a Best Feature Film Award.

A creation of filmmakers Steve McCurdy and Ken Bailey, “I Flunked Sunday School” is based on Bailey’s novel of the same name. On the weekend of October 13th, the movie won the Best Feature Film Award out of 59 selected films at the 3rd Annual Secret City Film Festival in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

“We wanted to use the gifts God gave us to tell a funny, whimsical, entertaining story of the way in which faith struggles in our contemporary world,” says McCurdy. “And yet like Lloyd Boyd [lead character], in spite of our track records, we will not only be forgiven for our unending list of failings… God uses them to build His successes.”

Bailey’s novel, in its second edition printing with new additions, will be available at www.IFlunkedSundaySchool.com in mid November. The audio book with CD will also be available, along with “I Flunked Sunday School’s” soundtrack, released in August, which includes original music from Ken Medema and Darren Pearson.

On November 3rd – 5th, moviegoers participated in this innovative, grassroots marketing venture to ensure the production and wide distribution of other projects of this kind. The release itself has been orchestrated by word-of-mouth. Audiences are sharing their enthusiasm for the film by forwarding email notices nationwide to their friends, recommending “I Flunked Sunday School.” The film will be shown in hundreds of churches for free, and these churches will be distributing postcards to attendees detailing how they can encourage their friends and family in the cities where the film will appear in theatrical release.

A big screen release is scheduled for the Longview and Tyler ,Texas areas, Shawnee, Oklahoma areas, and Birmingham Alabama for the weekend of November 10. Participating theaters are listed on the website: www.IFlunkedSundaySchool.com. A wider big screen release is anticipated just before Easter.

There’s nothing heavy or preachy about this stumblingly reverent little audience pleaser. While “I Flunked Sunday School” focuses on faith, it’s a film for anyone who has ever felt as though they’ve somehow failed God...and, ultimately, themselves.
