Rohde & Schwarz Supplies Latest Generation FM Transmitters to Radio UNAM in Mexico

Radio UNAM (Radio de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) offers the City of Mexico a program that covers culture, research and science. The station is strongly oriented to values such as criticism, analysis and freedom of expression. But they also explore new forms of radio. This is where the FM transmitter from Rohde & Schwarz comes in.

Due to space constraints on the campus, the transmitter’s compact footprint was a key consideration for the purchase decision. The R&S THR9 delivers extremely high power density, with 40 kW output power in a single 19-inch rack. The transmitter also features liquid cooling, which not only saves space, but also energy and costs. There is no need for the usual high-capacity air conditioning systems, reducing the maintenance effort for the cooling system. Unlike air conditioning systems, which need servicing several times a year, the cooling system of the R&S THR9 only has to be serviced every four years. With an energy efficiency of 75 percent in FM mode, it also cuts energy costs.

The transmitter is to be delivered by the end of January and will be on air in February.
