The American Board of Industrial Hygiene® Celebrates 59 Years of Service

The American Board of Industrial Hygiene® (ABIH®) administers the internationally recognized Certified Industrial Hygienist® (CIH®) and Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP®) programs.

Lansing, MI – WEBWIRE

As ABIH’s new Chair, it is an honor to celebrate 59 years of service to those in the industrial hygiene profession, and more recently the environmental profession, in addition to all of the government agencies, institutions and companies that rely on CIHs and QEPs.

With the arrival and celebrations for the New Year, the American Board of Industrial Hygiene® also proudly celebrates its 59th anniversary of service. ABIH® was established in 1960 as a not-for-profit corporation and since its inception, has been acknowledged as the premier organization for certifying professionals in the practice of industrial hygiene.

ABIH’s Certified Industrial Hygienist® program is recognized by government agencies, institutions, and companies across the globe. Over the past 6 decades, thousands of industrial hygiene professionals have obtained the prestigious CIH® certification administered by ABIH®.  These dedicated practitioners, who are at the top of their profession, have helped to make the world a safer place to work and live in.

Three years ago, ABIH® and The Institute of Professional Environmental Practice® (IPEP®) announced a new collaboration to bring their respective credentials, the Certified Industrial Hygienist® and the Qualified Environmental Professional®, along with the Environmental Professional In-Training (EPI) designation, to a wider audience of professionals. Independent governance of each organization remains intact, but the organizations now share operations and management services to enhance innovation and outreach.

“As ABIH’s new Chair, it is an honor to celebrate 59 years of service to those in the industrial hygiene profession, and more recently the environmental profession, in addition to all of the government agencies, institutions and companies that rely on CIHs and QEPs,” said Dirk Yamamoto, PhD, CIH® and Chair of ABIH®. “These committed industrial hygiene and environmental practitioners are among the best of their professions. They have, and continue to help, make the world a better place through their actions.”
