Engineer Pens Heart-wrenching Tale of a Songwriter in “If Ya Wanna Know”

As a musician himself, mechanical engineer Theodore R. Comstock shares his love of music through his original compositions and associates it in a fictional story that is sure to tug the reader’s heart. “If Ya Wanna Know” tells the story of Mark Dawson, an engineer working on his graduate studies who strives to be known in the field of music and Deputy Sheriff Jeff Adkins, a public servant who also dreams of being a successful performer.

The story commenced on the summer while Mark is waiting for the acceptance result for his dissertation, which is a requirement for him to graduate. He decided to go Nashville to promote and record songs that he has completed. He hitched and hiked his way to the city. While walking on the remainder of his journey, he was hit by a speeding car leaving him motionless on the side of the road.

Adkins found Mark and was able to call for help. Thinking that the original writer had succumbed to the accident, the sheriff took the original recordings from Mark’s bag, seeing it as an opportunity for him to realize his own dreams. Unusual circumstances brought the two together that leave Adkins torn between his moral obligations and his personal aspirations.

The author includes the lyrics and links of the songs used in the book for the readers to experience. He said that although he didn’t want to be a writer originally, he wants his songs to be heard and writing the book is the best possible way for him to do so.

About the Author
Theodore R. Comstock earned his bachelor and master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Ohio State University and completed his PhD program at the University of Cincinnati. Aside from his technical interest, Dr. Comstock also has a deep affection for music that he said was inherited from his mother and his grandfather.
