Who is responsible for responsible fisheries?

On 13thof December, WWF Adria marine team organized round table in Esplanade hotel, Zagreb.

The main goal of this event was to gather all relevant stakeholders from fishery sector in order to open the dialog between them, and find innovative solutions for moving Croatian fishery towards more sustainable future. Around 40 people participated at the round table (fishermen, representatives of local fisheries action groups, producer, fish farmers, breeders, The Croatian Chamber of Commerce, non-governmental organizations, Ministry of Agriculture and others), out of which there were seven panelists. Panelists were representatives of the following institutions / organizations: Moderator - Lav Bavčević (University of Zadar), Petar Ugarković (Podvodni.hr), Danijel Strugar (Croatian Chamber of Trades and Crafts), Šime Kosor (Omega 3), Marko Milić (Mardešić), Marin Mihanović (Directorate for Fisheries), Sanja Matić Skoko (Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries) and Danijel Kanski (WWF Adria). Questions and topics on which the panelists gave their answers from their point of view were: an opinion on the current situation of resources in the sea, how and how to contribute to resource recovery, and what measures should be taken to successfully manage fisheries in Croatia.
