Granny Brannigan, as she is affectionately called by the children, would wait by her front gate to give chocolate cookies to all the boys and girls on their way home from school. Sarah and her friends would stop at her house for the delicious homemade treats. One day, however, Mrs. Brannigan is not by her gate.
 
Feeling very worried, Sarah pays the old woman a visit and then finds out she is not feeling well. She stays for a while to keep Mrs. Brannigan company. Knowing that Sarah and her family live in a house in front of a large hill, Granny gives her four packets of poppy seeds.
