DX, WX and SSG Solutions Secure and Assure New International Infrastructure

SUNNYVALE, Calif., November 7, 2006 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced that Lonely Planet, one of the world’s leading travel information publishers and operator of the LonelyPlanet.com Website, has secured and raised the performance of its international network with Juniper’s security and application acceleration solutions. The Australian-based company deployed DX 3650 data center acceleration platforms, WX 20 WAN optimization platforms, and a Secure Services Gateway (SSG) 550 in a network upgrade that it says accelerates its business applications and improves its customers’ online experience.

“Our extensive online presence, which we maintained for many years, required improvements to security and performance to sustain customer satisfaction,” said Peter Leslie, Lonely Planet’s technology operations manager. “The Juniper Networks products now enable us to provide richer, more dynamic and interactive online media to end-users in a secure and assured manner. In addition, the WX platforms have accelerated performance and raised user productivity for core business applications including our SAP enterprise resource planning system.”

Lonely Planet was introduced to the Juniper Networks acceleration platforms by O2 Networks Pty Ltd., a leading Melbourne-based provider of networking and security services. As a certified Juniper Networks J-Partner Elite (Advanced Security and Application Acceleration), O2 evaluated, designed, implemented and supports Lonely Planet’s Juniper acceleration solution.

“The combined Juniper Networks solutions have replaced Lonely Planet’s legacy networking equipment, increasing WAN throughput and security and Website response times,” said Michael Burt, O2 Networks’ sales manager. “Multiple Juniper WX platforms and SSG appliances were installed in the Lonely Planet offices in the United States and the United Kingdom, as well as at the company’s head office and data center in Melbourne.”

The Juniper Networks DX and WX platforms accelerate data center and WAN performance, respectively. DX platforms are high-availability data center accelerators that also provide full server local balancing (SLB) capabilities to reduce Web page download times, improve server capacity, increase availability of data center resources and simplify the data center architecture. The WX platforms reduce WAN bandwidth consumption, improve response times, accelerate application performance for remote and branch office users, and provide visibility into WAN behavior. Lonely Planet is especially benefiting from the WX platforms’ TCP acceleration to reduce WAN latency.

Juniper Networks’ Secure Services Gateway (SSG) 550 incorporates a mix of performance, security and LAN/WAN connectivity for regional and branch office deployments. Using a complete set of Unified Threat Management (UTM) security features delivered in the ScreenOS 5.4 update, the SSG 550 will help Lonely Planet protect against worms, spyware, trojans, malware and other emerging attacks. UTM security features include Stateful firewall, IPSec VPN, IPS, antivirus (includes anti-spyware, anti-adware, anti-phishing), anti-spam, and Web filtering. Complementing the powerful UTM security features is a robust routing engine that allows the SSG 550 to be deployed as a traditional branch office router or as a combination firewall and routing device to reduce capital and operational expenses.

“For a growing number of international enterprises, a worldwide WAN is increasingly pivotal to their business,” said Shaun Page, vice president of Australia and New Zealand for Juniper Networks. “Businesses like Lonely Planet rely more and more on their online presence and their networked applications, and they see the long-term value in investing in Juniper acceleration and secure routing solutions.”
