“The story sets up an emotional transition moving from Mary’s anxiety about her own naughty behavior, to the realization that she is greatly loved despite her occasional transgressions.”

Author Arleen Alleman’s “Sometimes Naughty - Always Loved: Mary and Her Big Cat Brain” book, inspired by her own cat who lived with her for fourteen years, conveys unconditional love that comes along with being part of a family.

In the story, Mary is described as a brown tabby cat with eyes a lovely shade of green; an elegant cat and an intelligent one. But there is something unusual with Mary, she does not think about being a cat. Her big cat brain tells her she is a member of the family made up of Dad, Mom, and Mary. She uses her intelligence and instinct to sort out what her human parents want her to do, and how to avoid being naughty.

With the book’s vibrant, eye-catching visuals and a story that is meaningful but easy to relate to and understand, it is guaranteed to pique the reader’s interest and is sure to impart an important lesson to every child.

A reader shares her insight of the book saying: “Topics such as love, respect, discipline, obedience, and caring are all explored as Mary sees and lives them. I think children will make the discovery that their parents will always care for and love them no matter their behavior, just as Mary’s parents care for and love her in spite of her sometimes naughty behavior.”
