NETGEAR® “All-In-One” Wireless Cable Voice Gateway Achieves EuroPacketCable 1.0 and EuroDOCSIS 2.0 Certification From EuroCableLabs
NETGEAR Continues to Expand Portfolio of Industry Compliant, Integrated Next-Generation Services Gateways
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — November 6, 2006 — NETGEAR, Inc. (Nasdaq: NTGR), a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products, today announced that its new Wireless Cable Voice Gateway (CVG834G) received EuroDOCSIS 2.0 and EuroPacketCable 1.0 Certification from EuroCableLabs. EuroCableLabs is the technical center of excellence for the European cable industry with a membership comprising all leading cable operators across Europe. The product was certified in EuroCableLabs Certification Wave #24 for its adherence to rigorous compliance testing conducted by Belgium-based tComLabs, an independent and neutral test laboratory contracted by EuroCableLabs.
“We’re delighted to add another breakthrough product to our growing family of industry compliant technology solutions for home and small business networking,” commented David James, NETGEAR’s director of broadband service provider products. “We’ve seen an upsurge in demand by global cable operators for higher upstream bandwidth utilization of cable networks, and our integrated Wireless Voice Gateway was designed to accommodate the expanding requirements of both EuroDOCSIS and EuroPacketCable for next-generation cable communications systems.”
The EuroDOCSIS (European Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification), based on the CableLabs® DOCSIS® specifications, defines interface specifications for cable modems, cable modem termination systems and embedded cable modems within a DVB-C set-top box involved in high-speed data communication over Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) networks. The certification program verifies that the NETGEAR Wireless Cable Voice Gateway (CVG834G) complies with the specification and is interoperable with other certified/qualified products. The benefit of EuroDOCSIS 2.0 is that it offers enhanced upstream throughput using advanced (A-TDMA and S-CDMA) modulation techniques, as well as noise immunity.
EuroPacketCable, based on the US specification PacketCable™ developed by CableLabs®, is the European standard for IP-based multimedia services over cable. Version 1.0 specifies IP telephony on top of the EuroDOCSIS access network, including solutions for quality of service, network security and interconnection with the PSTN. The initiative confirms the NETGEAR Wireless Cable Voice Gateway’s (CVG834G) conformance to interface interoperability requirements for delivering a variety of packet-based multimedia services such as VoIP, video conferencing and interactive gaming. EuroDOCSIS networks with EuroPacketCable extensions enable cable operators to deliver data and voice traffic efficiently and economically using a single high-speed, quality-of-service (QoS)-enabled broadband architecture.
NETGEAR’s innovative Wireless Cable Voice Gateway (CVG834G) combines NETGEAR’s field-proven wireless cable modem router with EuroPacketCable VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) technology, delivering all the capabilities of a EuroDOCSIS 2.0 cable modem in one simplified network centerpiece. Six products in one, the device includes a two-port voice terminal adapter, 802.11g wireless access point, firewall, router, and four-port Ethernet switch with Plug-and-Play™ USB connectivity. Users of this advanced home networking Gateway can enjoy the broadest spectrum of multimedia services — complete network cable access with double firewall (SPI+NAT) protection for instant high-speed Web access, IP telephony, file sharing, multimedia conferencing, video streaming, interactive gaming and MP3 downloading — all without the need for an external modem. The integrated device greatly reduces clutter, simplifies setup as well as control and management of the network environment.
NETGEAR’s Wireless Cable Voice Gateway (CVG834G) joins an already established collection of CableLabs-certified NETGEAR products. In March 2006, NETGEAR’s Embedded Multimedia Terminal Adapter (EM612) received PacketCable 1.5 Certification, and in December 2005, NETGEAR became one of the first companies to receive a “three-way” certification for its Wireless Cable Voice Gateway (CVG824G), which earned PacketCable 1.0, DOCSIS 2.0, and Cable Home 1.1 certifications. NETGEAR also recently participated in the EuroCableNET™ Pavilion — part of the 2006 Broadband World Forum Europe conference and exhibition held 9-12 October in Paris at the CNIT La Défense — where the company performed a technology demonstration.
