Meet Buster – who has the best job in the world – for dogs!
It may be a dog’s life for some but for Buster things couldn’t be better – after landing the best job in the world – for dogs.
A sharp 70 per cent rise* in dog present gifting at Christmas has led to Buster getting a job at Tesco – in what is believed to be the UK’s first official canine toy and treat tester.
In fact Buster – a cross between a Jack Russell and a Pug, called a Jug – has earned the nickname Santa Paws from his Tesco colleagues.
His basket resembles a canine version of Santa’s Grotto, filled to the brim with the latest doggy presents to play with and taste.
And with even more people expected to include the family pet on the Christmas present list - Buster has his work cut out for him.
And according to retail analysts Kantar, the UK’s annual petcare market is now worth £2.5 billion.
One of the main reasons for the boom are longer working hours and owners’ guilty feelings for leaving their pet hounds alone all day and depriving them of attention.
This has led to pets now being regarded as family members and subsequently having more money spent on them to keep them healthy and happy.
Buster’s owner, Tesco Pet Category Range Manager Annika Johnston said:
Buster must be the envy of every dog in Britain because he gets to try out the latest toys and treats.
“He’s such a lively dog that I know immediately by virtue of a wagging tail or a loud series of barks if a toy he plays with or treat he tries is going to be popular with other dogs.
“The more he wags his tail and the longer he barks then the more likely I am to get these toys and treats on Tesco shelves.
“With increasing numbers of dog toys and treats coming onto the market it means Buster has lots of fun.”
The rapidly increasing amount of doggie toys and treats coming onto the market means that Buster may soon need a companion to help him.
Added Annika: “He just loves to play and wakes the house up waiting to try out new playthings. It’s almost like having a young child in the house.
“But it’s also hard work for me because I’ve got to record every little reaction to make sure that the toys and treats Buster picks will have universal appeal.”
Among the top five selling treats at Tesco for dogs this Christmas are predicted to be:
- Reindeer jumper
- Pigs In Blankets For Dogs
- Decorate Your Own Gingerbread Biscuit for Dogs
- Wagtastic Festive Piggy Dog Toy
- Dog Advent Calendar
