Arup to help Highways England provide more reliable journeys in the South West of England

Along with Taylor Woodrow, we look forward to supporting Highways England on their ambitious major road improvement plans in the South West. Together with our partners we’ll be deploying the latest technologies to maximise efficiencies and to ensure that the designs work for millions of road users. We’ll be building on recent experience of working in the region, including on the M49 Avonmouth junction and on the A30 Chiverton to Carland Cross dualling scheme

Arup will support Taylor Woodrow following its appointment to Highways England’s new Regional Delivery Partnership for the South West region.

Along with Ramboll, the team will work with Highways England to deliver a pipeline of projects from early design stages through to completion and handover, with Arup leading on the design of projects across the six-year period.

The first scheme will be the A30 between Chiverton and Carland Cross, which remains the only stretch of single carriageway on the A30 between Camborne and the M5 at Exeter.

The contracts have been set up using a new industry-leading approach called the Routes to Market Regional Delivery Partnership, which incentivises companies to improve safety and journeys on our roads. Highways England announced the initiative as ‘a new era for road building with ground breaking multi-billion pound contracts encouraging better planned roadworks and more reliable journeys’.
