About the Author
Lisabeth Mackall is a speech pathologist, a mother of three, and the wife of a police officer in Minnesota. Her life was a typical busy schedule of managing both her work life, home life, and the law enforcement spouse life.

On January 2, 2012, her husband, Officer Frank Mackall, was responding to a call for assistance when he lost control of his squad car and crashed into a tree. He was rescued by his team, and airlifted to a local hospital, fighting for his life.

Lisabeth was notified of her husband’s severe brain injury upon arrival at the hospital. While there with her family, both blood and blue (law enforcement), she began to document on a website called Caring Bridge, which allowed everyone in the community to find updates on Frank’s condition.

This website, and the journal she kept while Frank recovered from his devastating injuries, became the basis for her first publication, “27 Miles: The Tank’s Journey Home.”

The blog on Officer Mackall’s recovery continues today at www.LisabethMackall.com, with updates on his condition, brain injury support, a monthly newsletter, and an ongoing conversation about living on a new life path, and how their family has had to adjust to life after a traumatic event.
