The author shares what it means to sit near and learn straight from a true mystic and spiritual master.

Dana Hayne’s life has been a lifelong spiritual journey. Frustrated by the apparent meaninglessness of life, she set out looking for answers. She hopped from the Virgin Islands to a kibbutz in Israel and stayed for a brief period in Woodstock until she was introduced by a friend to His Holiness Muhammad Raheem Bawa Muhaiyaddeen, a mystic from Sri Lanka, who was staying in Philadelphia at that time.
In her spiritual memoir, “GPS for the Soul: Wisdom of the Master” (Balboa Press; 2017), Hayne shares her experiences of living and studying at the side of this “little brown man from Sri Lanka” in the form of anecdotes and, at times, poems. His Holiness, who humbly referred to himself as an “ant man,” awakened in her the station of universal wisdom whereby she might navigate the path of truth herself and discover peace of mind.
Indeed, Hayne credited His Holiness as the inspiration for “GPS for the Soul:” “I was in Bawa’s presence several times when he mentioned that his children should write their hadith or personal experiences of studying with him,” the author told Sadiq M. Alam of Technology of the Heart during their sohbet or spiritual conversation. “Whenever he asked someone to speak publicly before an audience, he always advised them to ‘Speak from your experience.’
“So, after Bawa died, I asked myself if I had completed the things he asked of me and writing my hadith or experiences with him was something clearly I had not done. It took many, many false starts over decades to write this little book as it has required great introspection and self-inquiry to see and acknowledge the lessons, which, by the way, I am still harvesting.”
Readers, who are spiritually inclined or seeking will love this book, which not only validates their own personal search, but also offers guidance and empowerment for their journeys.
