Kaiser Permanente Teams Up with Kalaheo High School Community on Campus Beautification

KAILUA, Hawaii  – WEBWIRE

Volunteers from Kaiser Permanente Hawaii gathered for a community workday at Kalaheo High School today, working with school staff to help beautify the campus. This marks Kaiser Permanente’s fourth community workday of 2018, part of an ongoing initiative to support healthy learning environments for Hawaii youth by restoring and beautifying school campuses.

Volunteers completed general maintenance in the school parking lot, including restriping parking stall lines. Kaiser Permanente provided volunteers and monetary support for the project.

“We’re proud to work with Kalaheo High School to help beautify their campus and instill in students a sense of pride for their school,” said David Tumilowicz, vice president of communications at Kaiser Permanente Hawaii. “We look forward to supporting even more public schools in 2018 by sponsoring and participating in a few more community workdays through the rest of this year.”

Kaiser Permanente Hawaii has partnered with Hawaii 3R’s, an organization founded by the late U.S. Senator Daniel Inouye, to identify and complete impactful projects at schools across the state. Hawaii 3R’s provided a grant for $8,500 for the beautification projects.

“We’re grateful to Kaiser Permanente and 3R’s for donating their time and resources to help support our school, and perform needed work on our campus,” said James Rippard, principal of Kalaheo High School. “Our campus beautification efforts today help instill a sense of pride and community in our students, faculty and staff.”

About Hawaii 3R’s
In 2001, the late U.S. Senator Daniel Inouye began a new initiative called Hawaii 3R’s (Repair, Remodel and Restore Hawaii’s public schools) whose mission is to bring outside financial and human resources together to tackle the approximately $640 million repair and maintenance backlog in Hawaii’s public schools.  Hawaii 3R’s works with state agencies, trade unions, businesses, military, community leaders, parents, teachers and students to match public and private funds with volunteers’ “sweat equity” to reduce the backlog.
