Santander, leader in responsible banking and in the contribution to the progress of students and universities

Madrid – WEBWIRE

Talent, diversity, effort, training, internationalisation, connectivity... there are many values that define Santander Universities, a unique initiative in the world to support higher education promoted by Banco Santander as part of its activities in favour of responsible banking.

The initiative, which celebrates 20 years in collaboration with more than 1,200 universities and academic institutions in 21 countries, is part of Santander’s efforts to maintain the trust of our employees, customers, shareholders and communities, and to contribute to the progress of people and companies.

Santander Universities is renewed day after day, with the efforts of hundreds of people spread across three continents, and the trust of all Santander employees. The Bank’s resolve is to be at the forefront of support for university training, entrepreneurship and digital transformation, amongst others.
In this regard, the first meeting of the new Committee for Responsible and Sustainable Banking and Culture took place on 4 September, which will help coordinate these efforts within its supervisory mission of responsible business management.

Behind each scholarship, each aid, each programme, is a real story, a person who’s life has been changed by Banco Santander. Until that time, a field trip was unthinkable, a scholarship to study abroad, a monetary prize to start up a business idea with a transcendent social impact, an underprivileged family that has seen how the life of their son or daughter has taken an unexpected positive turn to achieve their dream and many, many young people with a desire to transform the things we support.

Javier Roglá, Global Head of Santander Universities and CEO of Universia: "Our vocation is to continue contributing through higher education to build a better future for all - more inclusive and more sustainable. Thanks to the Bank’s goodwill, we have allocated 1.6 billion euros to higher education since 2002, and in the next three years alone, more than 200,000 students will receive a Santander grant or scholarship or will participate in entrepreneurship or internship programmes thanks to Santander. Angelica, Alice, and Alex, the protagonists of this video, are just some examples of the impact of our programmes and the contribution that Bank employees’ efforts make to everyone’s progress".
