Rijksmuseum expands programme for international school students

WEBWIRE

The number of school pupils from abroad visiting the Rijksmuseum is increasing year-on-year. In the 2017-2018 academic year, the Rijksmuseum welcomed a total of 170,000 school students, 35,000 of whom came from outside the Netherlands. In order to maximise our service to this group, with the support of Eerde International Boarding School the Rijksmuseum has developed three guided tours. These tours, in which dialogue plays a central role, examine Dutch art and history from an international perspective.

Guided tours
  • Primary Schools | The Dutch Going Global (English)
On this tour, school pupils take a journey into Dutch history. They sail with the VOC to Asia, follow Vincent van Gogh to Paris, and take part in the battle of Waterloo.
  • Secondary Schools (exchange) | The Rijksmuseum’s Introduction to the Dutch
(English, French, Italian, German and Spanish)
Rijksmuseum’s Introduction to the Dutch is for secondary school exchange students. Viewing famous artworks together, they will become better acquainted with each other and with Dutch art and history.
  • International Schools | Rijksmuseum IB Tour (English)
This tour ties in with the Visual Arts curriculum and fosters critical thinking and viewing. It challenges school students to make connections between artworks in the museum and their own artistic work.
