An Exposition of a Miracle in an Amusing Narrative

Miracles do happen and the story of Boci, a disabled young boy in Haiti, is another testimony to this phenomenon. Austine Royer-Smith narrates this story in “Boci’s New Shoes,” after visiting Haiti for a noble missionary work.
 
When Haiti was struck by a hurricane, missionary teams came to help—providing food, medicine, and clothing. One of the generous ones to offer aid was Sister Austine. She met Boci through this endeavor and invited him to get closer to God. She taught him how to pray and upon leaving promised him a pair of shoes on her return to Haiti. Boci prayed for the gift, yet unbeknownst to him, Sister Austine lost the chance to bring him one. Surprisingly in the end, a little help from God came in mysteriously and Boci received his gift with a smile.
 
Sister Austine was just as pleased as Boci. Although she did not exactly know how it happened, she knew it was one of the works of the Lord. Part of her reason for sharing this story is for her to let people see how God grants our prayers the way He did with Boci’s. This sends a beautiful message that reminds us how mysterious and surprising God’s works can be.
