Cox Employees Connect with Boys & Girls Clubs of America

ATLANTA - More than 650 Cox Communications employees donated more than 3,000 hours of community service during Cox Connects Day, the company’s national day of service benefiting Boys & Girls Clubs of America. On October 21, the third annual Cox Connects Day, Cox employees and their families worked on a variety of projects including painting murals, landscaping, renovating and installing computers.

Cox operations across the nation organized Cox Connects Day projects tailored to the needs of 50 local clubs that serve 50,000 children. Employees in Hampton Roads, Cleveland, and Orange County painted and refurbished clubs. Volunteers in New Orleans and Omaha designed and improved landscaping. In New England and Tulsa volunteers improved the landscaping. Corporate employees at the company’s headquarters in Atlanta, painted murals on the outside the club, constructed playground benches and picnic tables, constructed the landscaping and organized the club’s conference room.

“We really appreciate the work of Cox employees and their families,” said Bill Regehr, senior vice president of information technology for Boys & Girls Clubs of America. “Cox is a great partner and friend to our clubs - both in its ongoing support as a Technology Sponsor and in the hundreds of critical projects Cox volunteers completed for our clubs on Saturday. They have really provided a valuable model for volunteerism for corporate America.”

Cox Connects Day is an extension of the company’s technology partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs. To help bridge the digital divide, Cox wires many local clubs and provides them with free or discounted high-speed Internet and cable service, and other in-kind and cash contributions valued in the millions of dollars since the partnership began.

“This day has been a great way for us to give back to an organization that helps so many youth,” said Pat Esser, chief operating officer for Cox Communications. “We’ve been involved with Boys & Girls Clubs for several years, and Cox Connects Day is a way to further our commitment. Our employees loved getting involved and making an impact.”
