At Zimmetry we support the efforts of Safe + Sound Week and work diligently to help companies and institutions prevent accidents, injuries, illnesses and deaths due to occupational exposures to harmful substances

Show Your Commitment to Safety is the theme for the 2018 Safe + Sound Week that takes place later this month. From August 13th through the 19th, this nationwide week of recognition officially takes place in what is described by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as an event to raise awareness and understanding of the value of safety and health programs that include management leadership, worker participation, and a systematic approach to finding and fixing hazards in the workplace.

OSHA also states that serious job-related injuries or illnesses don’t just hurt workers and their families, but can hurt business in a variety of ways. Implementing a safety and health program, however, can improve a business’s safety and health performance, save money and improve competitiveness.

Safety and health programs help businesses to:

  • Prevent workplace injuries and illnesses
  • Improve compliance with laws and regulations
  • Reduce costs, including significant reductions in workers’ compensation premiums
  • Engage workers
  • Enhance social responsibility goals
  • Increase productivity and enhance overall business operations

Health and safety programs are critically important because although the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that the rate of worker deaths and reported injuries in the United States has decreased by more than 60% in the past four decades, every year, more than 4,500 workers are still killed on the job,” said Harry Pena, President of Zimmetry Environmental. “Sadly, another 4.1 million suffer a serious job-related injury or illness. At Zimmetry we support the efforts of Safe + Sound Week and work diligently to help companies and institutions prevent accidents, injuries, illnesses and deaths due to occupational exposures to harmful substances.”

The industrial hygiene and indoor environmental quality experts at Zimmetry Environmental offer services to identify and mitigate occupational hazards associated with indoor air quality (IAQ), sick buildings, lead, asbestos, chemicals, microbiological substances and a wide range of other potential hazards found in Puerto Rico and across the Caribbean. These services not only protect workers and the public, they are also instrumental in many circumstances for keeping companies and institutions in regulatory compliance. To help spread awareness of Safe + Sound Week, Zimmetry recently sponsored an educational video that can be seen at: https://youtu.be/lQEjS3Q9W7s
