Forty-Two Tales Compiled to Enchant Readers

Seemingly mundane stories are creatively compiled to create a book full of magic-realism and reflections. On his latest installment of short stories, Carlos V. Cornejo’s Different Coins in the Fountain: Volume II provides diverse life stories of ordinary people that are creatively narrated through a touch of magical realism that adds to the entertainment quality of the collection.
 
Serving as a continuation of the first installment, Different Coins in the Fountain: Volume II has 42 stories, and once again shares stand-alone tales of individuals, friends, modern families, or even of whole communities. These fictional stories, which happen in different timelines and groups, indicate culture’s influence on people’s way of thinking. Though varied, these stories share one goal—to let busy people escape from their daily problems at work and family, among others. Cornejo says flipping coins unto a fountain portrays people’s desires to obtain the same things that everyone loves. He adds, “The stories are here in the hope that your reading them will prove productive and entertaining.” The author hopes to impart reflection and recollection to the readers.
 
With its reflective and humorous quality, Different Coins in the Fountain: Volume II received good reviews. One review came from Kirkus Reviews; the reviewer said the collection was “enchanting, nuanced comic stories that provide a wonderful escape from the mundane.” Another review came from Ronald Cabral, who said Cornejo’s “collection of short stories in two volumes are engaging poignant episodes each with a different richly colored subject matter.”

About the Author
Carlos V. Cornejo was born in San Francisco, CA. He Attended the public schools and went on to San Francisco State University where he obtained two Master of Arts degrees. When the Korean Conflict began, he served as a U.S. Marine during the war’s deadliest combat. Later, he also visited Japan. Returning in 1953, he became a teacher in San Francisco and eventually rose to the command of the entire educational system as Superintendent on San Francisco’s schools.           Carlos has traveled the world in the U.S.A, Europe, Asia, Mexico and Canada. He is a family man with three adult children. He is an avid reader and also finds time to take care of his beautiful garden
