Long-time children’s author Mae Kidman Aldous tries her hand at mystery in first novel

Mae Kidman Aldous made an impressive debut in the mystery genre with her first novel “Over the Edge” (LifeRich Publishing, 2013). The mystery thriller presents itself as a well-paced, well-written page-turner that is blessed with a rich plot and a cast of well-developed, likable characters, and intrigue. The narration sizzles with intrigue and anticipation in every page and chapter.
 
“‘Over the Edge’ is laced with mystery and romance,” wrote the author on a Facebook post. “It sends readers on a roller coaster ride.”
 
The novel focuses on the main character Cari Jansen and her pursuit of justice after having been injured in a suspicious car accident that killed her fiancé, Michael Rivers. While driving up a canyon, they are harassed and pursued by an unknown motorist. They are then forced off the road, their car rolling down the mountain before slamming into a stand of trees.
 
As she struggles back up the mountain, Cari hears Michael’s voice, encouraging her. Michael fears for her safety as he is unsure who the intended victim really is and warns her to be careful of the people she trusts. Determined to seek justice for Michael and to find out who and what the reason is behind their predicament, Cari eventually convinces a skeptical Detective Connor O’Kelley to help her.
 
The author hopes to share a message of hope and strength to her readers through her novel. “[‘Over the Edge’] exemplifies the power of the human spirit. The main character, Cari remains steadfast and determined in the face of adversity.
 
“The book is more than a mystery,” said the author. “It’s about family relationships, grieving, forgiving, loving and enduring.”
 
Mae Kidman Aldous’ “Over the Edge” will soon be displayed in the upcoming 2018 Sharjah International Book Fair on October 31 to November 10, 2018, at the Expo Centre Sharjah in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

About the author 
Mae Kidman Aldous, author of several published children’s stories, wrote her very first novel.  She was born and raised in the mountains of northern Utah.  She and her husband moved for a time to central Virginia and then to North Carolina, where she currently resides in Concord.  They have four children, twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
