Sacramento Author Dennis Rasmussen Writes a Novel That Highlights the Dynamic Days of the 1960s

“Guys in Their 20s in the ’60s: A Novel, Inspired by Actual Events” is a book that documents seldom told perspectives of the 1960s. Inspired by true-to-life accounts during the era, the novel shares the personal experiences of three friends who pursue their life’s plans while surviving the challenges of the era.

Sacramento California – WEBWIRE

“During the 1960s, my friends and I occupied a certain social stratum that did not necessarily coincide with popular media reports about young San Francisco residents, otherwise known as hippies. We lived, loved and worked somewhere between the counterculture and the mainstream. We made our plans and adapted to the changing times.”

At times funny, tragic, sexy, nostalgic, moving, and entertaining, this historically-rooted novel places the reader in the footsteps of those who trod the outskirts of the ‘60s counterculture while remaining connected to their hometown sensibilities.

Dennis Rasmussen recalls his experiences in the ‘60s and took them as inspiration in writing this novel. He tells how he and his college friends reacted to the dramatic events of the era.

Appealing to women as well as to men, “Guys in Their 20s in the ’60s” is twelve interconnected stories told through the experiences of three former high-school buddies—Adrian, a musician; Mitchell, a theater student; and Dave, a carpenter. Starting in Sacramento, then swept up in the great migration to San Francisco, they encounter real world obstacles while pursuing their Plans: a music career that’s inconsistent; a college degree that might be out of reach; a simple lifestyle away from the chaos.

Improvising as they go—learning, loving, evolving, road-tripping—they persevere in spite of seismic events all around: political assassinations, civil rights struggles, antiwar protests, and campus disturbances. Helping to shape their stories and negotiate a cultural revolution is a diverse cast of characters: girlfriends, jazz cats, student activists, drama geeks, nightclub musicians, stoners and dreamers.

One satisfied reader has said about Mr. Rasmussen’s “wonderful book… that anyone near his generation (or who wanted to learn about that generation) would thoroughly enjoy. I highly recommend it.”

Guys in Their 20s in the ’60s: A Novel, Inspired by Actual Events” will appear in the coming 2018 Frankfurt International Book Fair taking place on October 10-14, 2018. Be sure to find this book and many other great titles during this wondrous event!
