Phoenix Henderson Shares Her Spiritual Experiences in a New Book
The singer-songwriter and published author from Orange Country pens a book to inspire and enliven the faith in an unseen, yet loving God.
The author’s spiritual experiences affirm the existence of a God capable of divine intervention.
Phoenix Henderson is known in Orange County’s music scene as the lead vocalist of a classic rock/country band and as a solo rock vocalist with a CD to her name. She is also a professional dancer and choreographer.
However, little do people know about her past struggles in life, including a history of drug abuse. In her religious memoir aptly titled “Spiritual Experiences” (Christian Faith Publishing, 2017), the author opens up about her past struggles and how through faith, she overcame them.
“This book is designed to inspire others and bring hope to those who may question the existence of God or who need some reassurance,” said Henderson. “I hope that you, the reader, are blessed and encouraged by it.”
“Spiritual Experiences” is not as thick as other memoirs, but thickness is not relevant. Henderson immediately captures her readers’ attention by getting to the meat of her story, which is her spiritual journey through her formative years as a young woman to that of a mature adult.
Her spiritual journey started by befriending Charlie, the brother of her sister’s husband. Charlie was very spiritual and once suffered from out-of-body experiences. They were able to read each other’s minds. One night, they witnessed Christ and experienced what she describes as an all-encompassing feeling of unconditional love.
Her relationship with her brother, Jeffrey, also shaped her spiritual journey – and her calling to music. Jeffrey, who passed away from Hodgkin’s disease at the age of 16, developed in her an appreciation for rock music. Too young at that time to understand the severity of her brother’s illness, she became angry at God who, years later, led her to a vision of Jeffrey lying in his hospital bed… and thinking of her in his last breath.
The author openly shares her struggle with drug abuse. Unable to handle the effects of alcohol, she turned to recreational drugs. She later gave up drugs by becoming a Born-Again Christian, only to experience a relapse several months later.
The author then dropped out of school and was soon diagnosed as manic-depressive. During her recovery, she obtained work. She later returned to school and engaged in a romantic relationship, which bore her a daughter. She fell into relapse again, broke up with her partner, and temporarily gave up custody of her daughter to her parents so she could get her life together.
After much reflection, the author decided to permanently adopt sobriety as a lifestyle out of respect for our Father in Heaven. Changing her name to Phoenix (the medieval Christian symbol of death and resurrection) was part of the process.
Phoenix Henderson’ “Spiritual Experiences” will soon be displayed in the upcoming 2018 Frankfurt International Book Fair on October 10-14, 2018.
