· Setting up communications and power engineering as a general contractor

· Shopping center due to open in 2009, with 200 department stores and specialized retailers

Bosch Security Systems has won the contract for providing all of the power and communications engineering technology for the Limbecker Platz city project in Essen as a general contractor. Limbecker Platz will become one of the largest inner-city shopping centers in Germany spread over approximately 70,000 square meters and containing around 200 specialized retailers and department stores.

Regarding the communications engineering, Bosch is projecting and installing a complete range of security technology – smoke detection systems, video and access control systems as well as emergency sound systems. Around 1200 fire detectors, more than 30 video cameras and approximately 1900 loudspeakers are being installed to ensure the security of this shopping paradise.

The power engineering element consists of transformer and medium-voltage systems, low-voltage primary and current distribution boards, emergency power systems, central battery systems, laying cables, lighting technology and emergency lighting as well as lightning protection and grounding systems. Bosch will also be responsible for the bus systems and data technology. Throughout this development, Bosch will be collaborating with noted companies.

The first phase of construction ends in 2008, at which point around 60 percent of the center will be finished and the doors will open at a Karstadt department store and around 100 specialized retailers. The shopping center is due to be completed in 2009.

And it’s not only the size of this venture that is extraordinary – the center will have three and a half floors of shops – the architecture is in a class of its own. The wavy roof is reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe’s rippled dress in “The Seven Year Itch”. Parts of the historic Karstadt facade will be integrated into the new glass frontage. “Interwoven sequins” will ensure that the building is an eye-catcher during the day and after dark.

Bosch expanded its service range at the beginning of 2006 with the introduction of Bosch Electrical Engineering. This division provides an all-around service for electrical plant construction for large enterprises, including security and communications technology as well as electrical and network technology. Bosch Electrical Engineering makes project management for large construction projects significantly easier by providing a complete service from a single source, as well as acting as consultants and providing training.
