Seeing America in a Different Hue

Photo collection displays the tranquil beauty of old Uncle Sam

Tenafly, New Jersey – WEBWIRE

“Pictures that evoke nostalgia and changes wrought by the passage of time have always appealed to me.” -Dr. Nicholas V. Steiner

Black and white photographs are often associated with the past, giving them a sense of timeliness. America in Black and White is a collection of photographs taken by Dr. Nicholas Steiner in various parts of the United States. What sets this book apart are its depiction of quiet beauty, nostalgia and perhaps a touch of sadness for what has been lost over time. It’s Steiner’s hope that these images will allow readers to retrieve largely forgotten memories of our country’s historical past.

Dr. Steiner has always been fond of the monochromatic images that he grew up with. “Pictures that evoke nostalgia and changes wrought by the passage of time have always appealed to me,” he says,. He hopes that these images will similarly resonate with its viewers.

About the Author
Dr. Nicholas V. Steiner, is a retired internist, published author, cancer survivor and passionate photographer. He was a New York-based Board Certified internist until age 50 when metastatic (Stage IV) melanoma necessitated early retirement. A memoir “Unforeseen Consequences…” describes the highly unusual treatment that led to his against-the-odds recovery. A second recently published memoir Lifeline depicts his experiences at a military hospital in Beijing, China where he’d gone for alternative treatment of prostate cancer. The author’s passion for photography began with his first camera in 1950 (age fifteen) during a summer in France. His black and white photos from that period remain among his favorites.
