Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group Announces New Imprint Name and First Acquisitions

Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group announced today the name of its new imprint centered around imaginative and innovative books that inspire kids to explore, learn, and have fun while helping them develop the skills to do so.

I love how playful a pattern of dots can be, how celebratory of the individual and yet capable of creating collective meaning. I love that dots are rooted in print tradition, and yet also childlike, inclusive, and new,” said Odd Dot Publisher Daniel Nayeri. “I want people to see polka dots in bookstores, museum stores, online and elsewhere and then notice one odd dot out—eyes wide open, unafraid, and curious—staring forward into the world that ought to be.”

Odd Dot launches its inaugural list in 2019. It will feature the TinkerActive Workbook series of interactive workbooks designed to help kids master essential skills through play and handson activities, as well as a secret magnetic merit badge, Code This Game, a visual guide with a free-standing easel format that teaches the Python coding language and hacking skills via a strategy game called Attack of the Vampire Pizzas, and One More Wheel, a counting board book—with three spinning wheels on the cover— featuring a pair of animal friends in a quest to one-up each other by riding onto the pages via vehicles with more and more wheels.
