Warner/Chappell Music (WCM) songwriters have triumphed at the prestigious Ivor Novello Awards in London. They collected three awards, including Best Album, Best Contemporary Song and Best Song Musically and Lyrically.

Stormzy’s amazing run of recognition continues, with Gang Signs & Prayer named Best Album. Stormzy said the Ivors was the win that celebrates “your pen and your art”.

Up and coming talent Dave won Best Contemporary Song for his politically charged track ‘Question Time’.

Elbow’s ‘Magnificent (She Says)’ was named Best Song Musically and Lyrically, winning the band their third Ivor Novello.

Jon Platt, Chairman and CEO, Warner/Chappell commented: “Gang Signs & Prayer is songwriting at its finest, and this latest award is further recognition of Stormzy’s creative vision and cultural impact. With the outstanding talents of Dave and Elbow also being recognized, this is another great moment celebrating the diversity of British songwriting, artistry and music.”

Mike Smith, Managing Director of WCM UK, says: “It’s been a great day for our songwriters at the Ivor Novello Awards. Stormzy’s collection of accolades is a testament to his creative genius. And to see Dave and Elbow honoured by their peers as well made it a truly special event.”

The Ivor Novello Awards celebrate, honour and reward excellence in songwriting and composing. They were created by the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA) in 1956. The award winners are decided by juries made up entirely of composers and songwriters.
