POV Introduces Year-Round Evaluation of Submitted Short and Feature Docs

PBS’s independent, nonfiction film strand ‘POV’ is now calling for submissions to its 2019 broadcast season and introduces a year-round evaluation of submitted projects and films. TV’s “longest-running showcase” is seeking projects of all forms, lengths and subjects by both domestic and international filmmakers.

Currently in POV’s 31st season, the non-fiction strand of U.S. public broadcaster PBS includes titles such as David Alvarado and Jason Sussberg’s portrait of Bill Nye ( Bill Nye: Science Guy); Quest by Jonathan Olshefski and Sabrina Schmidt Gordon, about a family in North Philadelphia; and Hyewon Jee’s Singing with Angry Bird about a children’s choir in India.

For those interested in having their project included in POV’s next seasons, POV encourages submitters to either deliver their submission online via Vimeo and be download-enabled or delivered on a USB flash drive. According to the submission protocol, links should be password-protected and included in the submission form.

POV is now accepting and evaluating films on a rolling basis, year-round as of May 2018. Films submitted must be complete or near completion in addition to not having been previously submitted. Each year, POV has between 15-17 slots for features and 8-12 slots for shorts. The Executive Producers in negotiation with the Editorial Comittee will select the programs for POV. The submissions will be evaluated based on “their potential impact on a national television audience, their aesthetic approach, directorial vision, contemporary resonance and compatibility with series priorities” (POV Submission Guidelines).

In order to be considered for the 2019 season, submissions must be sent by Sunday, July 15th, 2018. Submissions received hereafter, will be considered for the following year’s season. For questions, email cfe@pov.org or click here for further details.
