While September 10th is generally considered to be the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season, June 1st is the official start of the season which runs through the end of November.

Just eight months after Hurricanes Maria and Irma devastated property and infrastructure throughout much of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, business owners and residents of the islands are preparing for the official start of this year’s hurricane season in a few days.

While September 10th is generally considered to be the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season, June 1st is the official start of the season which runs through the end of November. During a typical hurricane season there may be several powerful hurricanes that make landfall in the Caribbean, but there are often even more tropical storms that form and create concerns.

“2017 was a record year in many ways for property and infrastructure damage in Puerto Rico,” said Harry Pena, President of Zimmetry Environmental. “In fact, the billions of dollars in destruction have still left some islanders without power and other modern conveniences. After last year’s historic hurricane season, our building science and environmental professionals were called upon by countless companies, institutions and residents to assess property damage and potential exposure hazards. These hazards included everything from water damage, mold, bacteria and sewage contamination to lead and asbestos hazards encountered during cleanup and rebuilding efforts.”

Once again this season, property and business owners can turn to Zimmetry Environmental at a moment’s notice. Their staff can identify a myriad of exposure risks and property damage concerns following these types of natural disasters. These services are instrumental for filing insurance claims properly so that businesses can quickly reopen and damaged buildings receive the comprehensive repair work they require so they don’t become a health and safety hazard for the public, workers or future building occupants.
