The Township of Ignace is on the threshold of transformation and has made considerable progress in the implementation of an innovative, extensive and comprehensive Community Investment Readiness and Capacity Building Master Plan (“Master Plan). To celebrate the progress made to date and to explore the possibilities for the future, residents, businesses, potential investors, the media, strategic partners, neighbouring municipalities and the general public are invited to join the Township on June 14, 2018 at 5:00 pm at the Township Office, 34 Main Street (Hwy 17) Ignace, Ontario for an evening of celebration.

This rural community has faced notable challenges over the past few years. Despite these challenges, there is still great optimism and a keen sense of hope for the future, that is fuelled by the Township’s new strategic direction. Ignace is eager to grow and prosper with the adoption of sustainable and diverse development principles.

“The recommendation to implement the Master Plan is justified by the progressive downturn of Ignace’s economy, which for many years was heavily dependent on mining and forestry,” says Mayor Lee Kennard. “This approach ensures economic growth and development will take place in a sustainable and diverse manner.”

The community’s positive outlook can also be attributed to two significant economic development projects: the promotion of Highway 599 as the best route to the Ring of Fire mineral wealth in the far north and the possibility of becoming the host community for the Nuclear Waste Management Organisation (NWMO) nuclear waste repository.

“It is important to note, that the Master Plan does not limit the community’s growth potential to only the Ring of Fire and or Repository. Even in the absence of these future projects Ignace has the potential to become a thriving community,” says Economic Development Manager Jason Felix. “The Township is open for business and invites investors to consider establishing business ventures within the community now, in anticipation of what is to come.”

Since initiating the Master Plan, the Township has developed a new brand complete with a vibrant logo, modern website and welcoming tagline. A Business Gap Analysis has identified feasible business opportunities within the community, and a comprehensive Community Improvement Plan has been established with incentives to encourage and support commercial and residential development.

Please join us on June 14, 2018 at 5:00 pm at the Township Office for the unveiling of our community’s new brand and strategic direction.
