Athapaskan Matriliny and Trade in Canada and Alaska is an informative and a powerful book noting on the power of women even during the tribal times.

In the First World that is still largely male-dominated, it is quite a mystery why the early native American tribes are tracing their descendants from their matrilineal side. Wayne W. Allen has chosen this interesting phenomenon in the society and the several studies as to how this could be relevant in the society today in his master thesis.

“Athapaskan Matriliny and Trade in Canada and Alaska” is an informative and a powerful book that cites different knowledgeable research that has explored on the basis why the Athapaskans traced their descendants through the mother’s side. Several principles have been proposed such as the principle of diffusion, the -sib system of social organization, the Old World Origin or the common origin (part of a ring of circum-Pacific elements), the hunting culture, and the important role of trade between the Tlingits and the Athapaskans.
