Marjorie Hersom Pens a Very Interesting and Wonderful Story of Her Family History and Ancestry

“Captive Bride,” a novel written by Marjorie Hersom, captures the readers’ attention in one of the most interesting true to life story. The story surrounds the life of the author’s ancestor, Maria del los Santos y Castro and the story of how she became a captive bride.

The story behind the “Captive Bride” comes from Marjorie Hersom’s father’s story told at the Sunday dinner table. The story is based on the real events that took place in the life of Hersom’s ancestor. It is a very intriguing story that reading it makes one think of the television series dramas. The added bonus is that it happened in real life.

The story begins at the mouth of the Hagatna River where the two girls are washing clothes, not at the harbor, that comes later. Maria’s feelings of discomfort when the man tells her he is taking her to her Aunt, Maria became uncomfortable yet followed him.

About the author
Marjorie Hersom was born on the Island of Guam. When she was eight, her father was transferred by his employer PAA to San Francisco’s Treasure Island. In 1941 the family four children and their mother followed taking five days to travel, landing each night at dusk in Midway, Wake and then two days in Honolulu leaving before dawn each day.
