Texas Author Charles Mabey Seeks to Bring Light Into Darkness With a Light Switch

About the Author
Charles Mabey is currently finishing a late life career change in the computer science lab at Tarrant County College. He is a graduate of TCU with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education along with elementary certification from UNT.

His first teaching assignment was in Crystal City, Texas where he lived and worked in a Mexican culture unlike anything he had experienced growing up in North Texas. “People and cultures may be different. But what I learned in Crystal City is that the heart laughs and cries the same.”

He took a break from teaching to pursue his love of photography as a professional. His primary responsibility was photographing student organizations at the high school and college level, both as individuals and a group. Seeing people through a camera lens, he says, “Only confirmed how different, yet the same, we are as people.”

These two experiences prepared him for the vision that changed his life. He simplified his needs and wants, started painting houses to buy time, and began his spiritual journey within where he found the Christ he never knew. Charles says: ‘The vision kind of pushed me into the deep end of the pool where writing “Light Switch” taught me to swim by the grace of a living God in the person of Jesus Christ. Perhaps that is why “Light Switch” is a book more about God’s love than anything else.’
