Everything you need to know about 2nd generation of Valemax

WEBWIRE

Vale is starting to operate with the most efficient ships in the world. That’s right: the 2nd generation of Valemax ships emits fewer greenhouse gases than all other transport ships. The first green ship of Vale left the Tubarão Port in February this year and the second is already sailing and should arrive in the next few days to Espírito Santo. “The 2nd Generation of Valemax ships emits 41% fewer greenhouse gases per tonne per mile transported compared to the 2011 Capesize fleet. They are the most efficient ships in the world in terms of emissions,” says Vagner Loyola, Ferrous Value Chain director.

Check the information you need to know about 2nd generation of Valemax.

  • They are considered ’green ships’ because they emit the lowest level of greenhouse gases among the world’s fleet of ships;
  • They emit 41% fewer greenhouse gases than the Capesize ships produced in 2011, which are cargo ships freighters for ore transportation;
  • They have more technology and are more efficient than the 1st generation of Valemax, which started operating in 2011;
  • 32 2nd generation Valemax ships will start operating until 2019, comprising a fleet of 67 Valemax, including the 1st generation ones, which emit 30% of the Capesize ships (2011).
