About the Author:
George Hinds was born in 1922 in Malone, New York. After serving in World War II, he returned home and took up architecture and planning at Yale University. He practiced in Colorado and New York and worked on the Planning Commission and redevelopment Authority of Philadelphia. He travelled to Sweden to work in the office of Scottish architect and planner Ralph Erskine; to Indonesia to teach planning and architecture; to India as advisor to the Indonesia delegation at a UNESCO conference; and to Japan to visit new housing development and collect technical literature. In the mid-1960s, he joined the faculty at the University of Illinois.
