“At a time when pain patients are losing access to their medication due to the opioid crisis, they need information about alternatives more than ever,” says Perlin.

The 100 million Americans in chronic pain now have a new resource to turn to for finding pain relief. The  Alternative Pain Treatment Directory was recently launched online. The directory was created by chronic pain expert Cindy Perlin. Perlin is the author of “The Truth About Chronic Pain Treatments: The Best and Worst Strategies for Becoming Pain Free.”

“At a time when pain patients are losing access to their medication due to the opioid crisis, they need information about alternatives more than ever,” says Perlin. “Many of their doctors are not well-informed about alternative pain treatments or do not have the time to educate their patients about them.”

The Alternative Pain Treatment Directory includes informative articles, inspirational stories of patients who have overcome severe chronic pain, information about innovative pain relief products and alternative healthcare provider listings. Site visitors can find information about little known, but highly effective, treatments and products, such as low level laser therapy and kratom, as well as accurate information about better known therapy options. There’s also an advocacy page where patients can make their voices heard by signing petitions about expanding insurance coverage for alternative treatments and other issues of importance to pain sufferers.

“This multidisciplinary resource is really needed,” says Perlin. “Often pain patients, especially those being abruptly terminated from their pain medication, don’t even know where to start to find relief or they’re misinformed about the available options.” The information on the directory can save many lives and significantly reduce suffering, according to Perlin.

The Alternative Pain Treatment Directory is continuing to add information and resources. Interested alternative healthcare providers can submit a listing and pain relief product developers and distributors can submit a product for review. Article submissions are also welcome.

Perlin is a licensed clinical social worker, certified biofeedback practitioner and chronic pain survivor.  More information about her can be found at www.cindyperlin.com.
