YMCA of the Rockies Announces New Teen Backpacking Camps for 2018 Summer Season
“We are excited to offer families an opportunity for their older children, specifically teenagers, to experience backpacking in a safe and fun environment this summer,” said Kellen Toulouse, Brand Manager, YMCA of the Rockies. “Our counselors do a wonderful job of helping teens develop confidence, strength and friendships that help them conquer any challenge on the trail, back at home, in the classroom, and as members of their communities."
YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park will host new Teen Backpacking Camps during the 2018 summer season. Designed for teens ages 13-15 years old, the camps will be held July 9-13 and July 30 – August 3 and feature three-day backpacking trips in Rocky Mountain National Park.
“We are excited to offer families an opportunity for their older children, specifically teenagers, to experience backpacking in a safe and fun environment this summer,” said Kellen Toulouse, Brand Manager, YMCA of the Rockies. “Our counselors do a wonderful job of helping teens develop confidence, strength and friendships that help them conquer any challenge on the trail, back at home, in the classroom, and as members of their communities.”
The new teen backpacking camps are an extension of the popular YMCA of the Rockies Day Camps that are offered each summer for youth ages 3-18 years old. The teen program is designed to focus on acceptance and community awareness, including the removal of cultural and social barriers. Teenagers learn to cook their own meals, set up their tents, and how to use water purification systems.
Recently named Best Family Resort in the United States by a USA Today reader’s choice survey, YMCA of the Rockies is located in Estes Park, Colorado on 800+ acres bordering Rocky Mountain National Park. Guests staying at the property choose from pet-friendly private cabins or hotel-style lodge rooms with common areas, and meals are served daily in a buffet-style dining hall.
“We will also have summer activities available on-site during the weeks of the teen camps, so it’s a great vacation for the whole family, including both younger children and grandparents alike, while the teenagers are at camp,” added Toulouse.
Summers at YMCA of the Rockies include activities such as fishing, mountain biking, horseback riding, archery, a climbing wall and a new 370-foot-long zip line. Many other activities are included for overnight guests as well, such as guided hikes, indoor swimming pool, 18-hole miniature golf course, and an arts & crafts center where families can choose to make their own tie-dyes, design mosaics, create jewelry, and more.
