Growing up, Mosley lived with his single mother and six siblings in a shotgun house, located on a plantation in southern Mississippi. A young man of color, he faced poverty, discrimination, and abuse while working on the plantations. To escape that life, he entered the military, and served as a member of the White House ceremonial unit. But the transition from an Outhouse to the White House was not without its own hardships.

In his book, “Outhouse to Whitehouse,” Mosley opens about the discrimination African American members faced in the United States of America. He talks about how his faith, values, and the fulfillment in mentoring cadets in the Army JROTC Program, got him through many of the challenges that came his way.

After over four decades of service, Mosley retired, but he continues to send a message of faith and hope to many people, especially the youth and single parents.

Jimmy Mosley served in the military for forty years, twenty years as a uniformed NCO and another twenty years as an Army JROTC Instructor. Nowadays, Mosley teaches Sunday school and mentor youth programs, where he fulfills his personal mission in life—to inspire and guide young people.
