Jan Jones, CEO of The Elizabeth Hospice Receives 2018 SDBJ Healthcare Heroes Award

Jan Jones, president and CEO of The Elizabeth Hospice was awarded the 2018 San Diego Business Journal Healthcare Heroes Award in the Executive-Service Provider category.
 
The annual SDBJ Healthcare Heroes Awards honors individuals within the San Diego community who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and innovation in the rapidly changing health care industry.
 
Jan Jones is the current chairwoman of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO). Jan works to educate patients and promote professional excellence on a local and national level. Under Jan’s leadership, The Elizabeth Hospice along with Palomar Health and Lightbridge Medical Associates established a palliative care inpatient program at Palomar. Other collaborative enterprises include a program that teaches UC San Diego medical students and geriatric fellows to address patient’s needs when receiving hospice care. The Elizabeth Hospice also partners with Rady Children’s Hospital to treat infants and children in their home while receiving end-of-life care. The Elizabeth Hospice also helped Scripps Health transfer hospice patients when Scripps chose to close its hospice in Hillcrest.

In her role as president and CEO of The Elizabeth Hospice, Jan leads the oldest and largest not-for-profit hospice and palliative care provider in San Diego County, with a workforce of 350 employees and 400 active volunteers. She is the liaison between the organization and the community and enjoys developing relationships with colleagues and residents throughout the region.
