How does it feel being asleep? For a child, it means being awake – and going on a week-long adventure with friends.

An adventure and dream story that children will love

“RayRay’s Amazing Dream: An Adventurous Week” by New York teacher Roslyn C. Thorpe has all the right ingredients that make for a great children’s book: easy-to-read text, full-color pages, creative illustrations, and above all, a host of fun and interesting anthropomorphic characters that children would love. The children’s book touches on the themes of friendship, play, and dreams.

Illustrated by Marvin Tabacon, “RayRay’s Amazing Dream” revolves around RayRay, a lion cub who bumps his heads on a huge tree trunk while playing during one Sunday. Lying on bed after being nursed by his mother, RayRay makes plans to explore the forest for a week and then falls asleep. Soon his plans become a reality – in the form of an adventure dream, in which he is joined by new friends.

Through “RayRay’s Amazing Dream,” the author, who worked as an elementary school teacher, shares her understanding of what dreams could mean for children. RayRay’s dream probably depicts adventures or experiences that depict adventure that RayRay dares to allow himself. His dream also suggests that he will soon explore the world and make new friends. What more can RayRay’s amazing dream say?
