Petróleos Mexicanos workers gave 38 million, 712 thousand pesos as a part of the donations they voluntarily collected to contribute to the efforts to rebuild the infrastructure of Oaxaca, which was heavily damaged during the earthquakes that tore through the state in September 2017.

In a joint effort of the company and the oil workers’ union, funds were collected to aid in rebuilding houses, one marketplace, schools, as well as to help fund productive projects and rebuild public infrastructure throughout the state.

The Pemex CEO, Carlos Treviño Medina, and the Secretary General of the Union of Oil Workers of the Mexican Republic, Carlos Romero Deschamps, explained that the funds were donated to Fomento Social Banamex, A. C., a nonprofit organization that committed itself to doubling the amount of the donations, to benefit the victims in the Istmo de Tehuantepec region.

Treviño Medina thanked all oil workers for their volunteer work and their support to this campaign, which yielded this donation.

“Pemex was simply a window that allowed all of us who wanted to do it, to donate one day’s work, and it is this momentous support that led us to collect 38.7 million pesos, which will be donated for rebuilding. There is still much for us to do,” the CEO assured them.

Treviño Medina clarified that the donations will not be managed by Petróleos Mexicanos, as it will be the nonprofit Fomento Social Banamex who will assign them to various projects. These funds can be audited.

“It is a source of pride for all oil workers to take part in this initiative, because we are an active part of the reconstruction efforts and this shows our solidarity towards our Oaxacan friends,” he pointed out.

It is through actions such as this, that the oil community reaffirms its commitment to work hard to help Petróleos Mexicanos remain as Mexico’s flagship company.

The governor of Oaxaca, Alejandro Murat Hinojosa; the Corporate Director of Management and Services of Pemex, Marco Antonio Murillo Soberanis and the Director of Social Comittment of Citi-Banamex, Andrés Albo Márquez, among others, attended the event during which the donations were officially given to the nonprofit organization.

Las menciones de Pemex pueden referirse a Petróleos Mexicanos o a cualquiera de sus Empresas Productivas Subsidiarias.
