Braskem is Brazil’s highlight in the CDP Supply Chain rankings, which showcases the companies that best engage their supply chains in adopting a new approach to climate change and water management. The company has been featured, for the first time, on the “Water A” Supplier list and, for the second time, on the “Climate A” Supplier list.

In 2017, the company reached its best historical milestone in supplier engagement and managed to engage 66% of its partners in climate change initiatives and 76% of its entire supply chain worldwide in water management programs.

“The leadership demonstrated by the A-List confirms that Braskem’s participation in CDP in recent years, engaging suppliers with a sustainability bias, has indirectly contributed to companies taking actions that seek to reduce the environmental impact of their activities. The evaluation reinforces that we have the capacity to reduce not only our own emissions, but also to influence actions in this sense by other companies from different sectors,” commented Gustavo Prisco, Director of Supply at Braskem.

Braskem’s work begins with awareness-raising, training, and decision-making. The company’s actions feature supply chain training, in which it is possible to identify opportunities to reduce emissions and improve water management. Suppliers each year receive a strategy questionnaire on environmental practices. In addition, the form helps identify potential risks in operations and manage them.

A-List
Besides engaging suppliers, Braskem has reached an unprecedented achievement for the Brazilian industry, with a positive outcome in the fight against climate change, by integrating CDP’s “A-list,” which selects the world’s best publicly traded companies in relation to the management of greenhouse gas emissions.
