British Journal of Anaesthesia and BJA Education now published by Elsevier

Amsterdam – WEBWIRE

Elsevier, the information analytics business specializing in science and health, is delighted to announce that it is now the new publisher of the British Journal of Anaesthesia (BJA); the No.1 ranking journal in anaesthesiology, and its companion title BJA Education (BJA Ed) beginning in 2018.

Both of these highly regarded journals are official publications of The Royal College of AnaesthetistsThe College of Anaesthetists of Ireland and The Hong Kong College of Anaesthesiologists, and they are published by Elsevier on behalf of the charitable organisation, British Journal of Anaesthesia. The journals’ editorial activities are underpinned by core values of integrity and innovation, and are undertaken to provide support to researchers and practitioners worldwide who are dedicated to driving advancements in the field of anaesthesia and to providing optimal patient care.

“We are very excited to enter into this new partnership with Elsevier,” commented Professor David Lambert, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the BJA. “While BJA is already the top journal in the field of anaesthesiology, we are confident that its position will be solidified further through Elsevier’s strategic guidance. Tapping into the publisher’s extensive resources, we will also focus on expanding our CPD (Continuing Professional Development) programme and social media presence as added services to our global community of readers, authors, and reviewers.”

Founded in 1923, BJA remains the oldest and largest independent journal of anaesthesia. The journal strives to foster and disseminate the best research and educational information in anaesthesia, perioperative medicine, critical care, and pain management with the ultimate goal of improving patient care globally. The journal will continue to be led by Editor-in-Chief Hugh C. Hemmings, Professor and Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Senior Associate Dean for Research, Weill Cornell Medicine, Cornell University, New York, NY, US. Prof. Hemmings and BJA’s eminent international editorial board are committed to the publication of papers of the highest standard through the application of its stringent peer review process.

BJA’s sister publication, BJA Education, has already earned a global reputation as a highly valued resource for continuing professional development in anaesthesia and related specialties. Published monthly, it strengthens the educational platform provided by the BJA as a whole and complements the well-established education reviews published in the BJA. The BJA Education editorial team, under the guidance of Editor-in-Chief Professor Jonathan Thompson, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and University of Leicester, UK, commissions articles from international experts. Each article is accompanied by a set of multiple choice questions to enhance learning.

Researchers and practitioners, as well as the libraries that serve them, will have access to the journal’s content through Elsevier’s online platforms. These offer readers enhanced discoverability, while authors benefit from seamless and global dissemination of their work.

“We are extremely proud to add these prestigious publications to our anaesthesiology portfolio,” commented Peter Harrison, Vice President for Health and Medical Sciences at Elsevier. “We look forward to working with the Editors-in-Chief and affiliated societies to build upon the excellent reputation of the journals, as well as expanding the online visibility and global dissemination of their content.”

BJA is ranked No. 1 among anaesthesiology journals with an Impact Factor of 6.238, according to the 2016 Journal Citation Reports.
