Developing the new food of love…a heart-shaped burger

Traditionally it’s oysters and steaks that are chosen as the food of love to be served on Valentine’s Day.

But this year these two romantic culinary staples may have to make way for something far more direct – heart-shaped burgers, on sale exclusively at Tesco today.

The limited edition finest* 6oz Scotch beer burgers, which will only be on sale until Valentine’s Day, will be available in around 500 of the supermarket’s stores.

This is the latest example of Tesco working with its suppliers to bring customers a new take on top products, including miniature avocados, star-shaped butternut squash bites and straight croissants.

Tesco meat counters buyer Alex Edwards said:

“These unique heart-shaped burgers are perfect for those wanting to give a special message when they cook for their loved one on Valentine’s Day.

”We’ve worked closely with our suppliers to come up with a fun and unique romantic take on one of the UK’s most popular foods.

“We don’t think there is a better way of literally putting your heart on the plate!”

Cooking a romantic meal for two is still one of the most popular ways to spend Valentine’s Day with oysters and steaks topping the Tesco sales for the most popular food.

Last year demand for oysters rocketed by nearly 70 per cent for Valentine’s against an average shopping week while sales of steak soared by nearly 60 per cent in the same time period.

The burgers will be sold on Tesco meat counters for £1.30 each.
