Gus and the Invisible Friend

A low country myth

Beaufort, South Carolina – WEBWIRE

“Always trust your invisible friend.”

Having been separated at a very young age, five abandoned kittens seek to reunite.  Before she left them, their loving mother told them that they each had been born with an inner voice to guide them.  She referred to that voice as their ‘invisible friend’ and said: “Always trust your invisible friend.”

Throughout the story, the kittens encounter challenging situations and an interesting array of animals, some of whom are dangerous.  Each kitten is unique and therefore takes a different approach to the challenges presented.

Set in Beaufort County, South Carolina, this beautifully illustrated myth is a chapter book for early readers, and it is a good read-aloud book for children of all ages.  “Gus and the Invisible Friend” educates about the flora and fauna of the Low Country of the Southeastern United States.  It includes an appendix to provide information about the plants and animals that are mentioned in the book.
