Message from Don Weisberg: Changes at St. Martin’s Press

Today we are making a change at St. Martin’s Press. Sally Richardson will take on a new role as Chairman. Jen Enderlin will be the publisher, with day to day operating responsibility for the company. Both Sally and Jen will report to me.

Sally Richardson has been at SMP for 48 years, and has come to represent all that is good about the company. In her new job, Sally will help chart the future for St. Martin’s Press. She will continue to read and buy books and will bring her vast experience to guide our daily lives. Sally will also be paying particular attention to our international rights and publishing business. I could not imagine a better chairperson—she knows, understands, and loves our company.

Jen Enderlin has been here for 25 years. She is a superb editor, publisher, mentor, and teacher. Over the years, she has edited and published some of our greatest authors, Lisa Scottoline, Augusten Burroughs, Kristin Hannah, CJ Box, and Mary Kay Andrews to name a few. This next step is the natural progression for her, and for us.

From Sally:

For the past 48 years, I’ve worked for, watched over, and delighted in the growth of SMP, transitioning from a small company of some 30 employees struggling to build a list, to a global power, playing a vital role in the publishing business.

To say it’s been a joy doesn’t begin to describe the fun, the challenge, and the pure adventure (every single day) of being part of the team that has made this possible.

Now, to ensure SMP’s continuing success, profitability, and growth, Jen and I are moving into new roles: Jen into the well-deserved position as the solo publisher of SMP with all the publishing units reporting to her; and me to a new position of Chairman (which Don calls my consigliere role), to "aid and abet" Jen, to help guide the company, and use my years of experience to drive home the message that SMP is not only the best place to work, but the best place to publish.

From Don and Sally:

We are facing a time when the market has never been tougher, and the competition more fierce, but we know we have all the players and resources in hand to tackle the future, and we look forward to many more years of our record-setting prosperity and growth. Together with Jen, and all of you, we look forward to a great 2018 and the many years beyond.
