Pemex CEO Appoints David Ruelas to the Corporate Financial Management as Substitute In Absence

The CEO of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), Carlos Treviño, appointed David Ruelas Rodríguez as substitute in absence to the Corporate Financial Management of the company, and he will be taken into consideration by the Board of Directors of Pemex to hold this position permanently.

Ruelas Rodríguez will substitute Juan Pablo Newman Aguilar, who was ratified by the Permanent Commission of Congress as head of the Public Credit Unit of the Ministry of Finance.

David Ruelas Rodríguez graduated as actuary from the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México, ITAM), and he received his Master’s Degree in Science from the University of Toronto. He has ample experience in the oil industry. He began working at Pemex in 2002, and since then he has held various positions in Corporate Financial Management, as well as Administration and Services of Petróleos Mexicanos.

He has held the position as Deputy Director of Risk Management and Assurance since 2011, where he developed various strategies for financial and business mitigation strategies, as well as the company’s insurance and reinsurance programs.

Before joining Petróleos Mexicanos, actuary Ruelas Rodríguez was a business analyst for McKinsey Company Inc, and since 2003 he is a tenured professor of the ITAM.

Newman Aguilar has overseen the Corporate Financial Management of Pemex since January 2016 and was also in charge of overseeing the financial stabilization strategy of the company, where he applied disciplinary measures to expenditures and granting privileges to more profitable investments that allowed the company to meet operating goals and guarantee the safety of its facilities.

Juan Pablo Newman’s arrival at the Ministry of Finance will help to strengthen the coordination between Pemex and this Federal Department to maintain the stability of public finance.

Carlos Treviño acknowledged the work Newman Aguilar performed and has instructed the actuary Ruelas Rodríguez to continue with the work and responsibility this new position entails.
