“To people hungry for the wisdom that comes with age and experience, and to those thirsty for a new path toward real peace for the world, Perspective represents one man’s hopeful viewpoint.” - Clarion Review

Ninety-five-year-old WWII veteran David Meakes dissects war and reveals the reality of its atrocity and futility in Perspective: The Golden Rule.

Born in 1922 in Saskatchewan, Canada, Meakes grew up during the Great Depression. There was no running water, no electricity, and no budget for their small country school. By high school, the government could not pay for teachers, so he and his class mates took correspondence courses from grades 9 through 11. Meakes opted to volunteer for the Canadian Army Medical Corps after finishing high school. He eventually trained for the Canadian Air Force, became a pilot officer, and served in the military for over five years, during one of the greatest wars in history.

“The five years I spent in the military during World War II gave me plenty of time to realize the bloodshed, the money spent, and the early youth-years wasted, were all permanently lost to war! They were irreplaceable! It was all stupidly cruel!” Meakes said in an impassioned speech. His hatred for war led him to write Perspective in 2017 to illustrate the tragedy and senselessness of war and to provide a long-term solution to eradicate it completely.

“To people hungry for the wisdom that comes with age and experience, and to those thirsty for a new path toward real peace for the world, Perspective represents one man’s hopeful viewpoint,” says Clarion Review, giving the book a four-star rating.

Meakes was interviewed by America Tonight, where he talked about his writing, war, and the Golden Rule. It was aired on December 23, 2017. Listen to the interview here.
